STEM trip to Imperial College
Lewis, Year 10, reports on a recent trip to the STEM day at Imperial College London.
It was a hot summer morning when the students of Harris Academy Peckham embarked on a trip to Imperial College London. All our brilliant Year 10s were eager to submerge themselves into a day full of science and the many possibilities of STEM.
During this session students were also shown how to differentiate between the different routes people can take when it comes to the field of STEM learning. A key highlight of the day was the display of prerequisites to enter different STEM faculties including what A- Levels and GCSE subjects to pursue.
The Imperial College educators also talked through different social events offered once you get to university and went over the different acronyms universities generally use. Their job was to write out the definitions based on a word they were given.
Near the end, students got to hear from others attending the university and ask questions they had. After the presentations, students were taken on a tour of the university. Many were in awe at the size of the campus.
At the end, students were asked to share how they felt about the day’s experience. A few of those statements are shown below. Here are just two comments:
- “We learnt about how different societies are formed in universities.” Lewis
- “Today gave me great insight into my future possibilities and cleared many doubts and questions I had.” Kevin
