Key Stage 4 Options

This page is designed to help our Year 9 students and their parents make the choice of what GCSEs to study in Years 10 and 11.

We hope you find it helpful but if you have any queries please contact Mr Jellis on w.jellis@harrispeckham.org.uk.

Options Booklet

Options booklet picOur options booklet is designed to help you make an informed decision about the courses that can be taken. Also included is information about the compulsory core subjects studied by all Key Stage 4 students.

Click HERE to download the Key Stage 4 Options Booklet.

Our Key Stage 4 Curriculum is designed to ensure each student is academically challenged and engaged in their learning. It is rigorous in nature, covering the EBACC, but it also offers the opportunity to study creative or vocational courses.

We feel this balance is something that underpins everything we are trying to achieve. We are committed to providing a curriculum that will:

  • Meet individual needs and aspirations
  • Be broad, challenging and motivating
  • Offer participation in learning to 19 years of age
  • Prepare students for a positive role in the future

Good reasons for choosing an option

You are good at the subject.

You think you will enjoy the course.

It fits your career ideas and plans.

It goes well with your other choices.

It helps to give you plenty of choice post 16.

You think you might want to continue studying it post 16.

Your research shows that it will interest you and motivate you to learn.

Bad reasons for choosing an option

Your friends have chosen it.

You think it will be easy.

Someone else thinks it is a good idea.

You like the teacher you have now.

You did not have time to research your options properly.

Key dates
