Learning Resources Centre
The Learning Resource Centre supports learning and teaching and provides a welcoming and motivating environment for all members of the Academy.
Our focus is on curriculum areas and enthusiasm for reading. The Learning Resource Centre is opened for students during break, before school and after school, from 7:30am-5:30pm
A variety of resources are available to inspire students including 13,000 fiction and non-fiction books, periodicals and a DVD collection. Fifty computers offer an important source for research and home-work, and also booked for lessons by all subject areas.
Reading for pleasure is the foundation for good literacy skills and we encourage students to read and learn by offering a wide range of initiatives and events.
These include induction lessons for Year 7, reading and writing competitions, Riddle of the Week, inspiring display boards, enrichment activities, celebration of World Book Day, book quizzes, book clubs, a film club, and support by reading buddies.
Student librarians are involved with activities, displays and the selection of stock.
