What People Say About Us

Claudette BerginWe receive lots of positive comments about our students from members of the public and visitors who write to the Academy of their own accord simply to praise them.

I’m delighted to share some of their comments with you.

Claudette Bergin, Principal

King's College London

"Just wanted to reach out and say we absolutely loved having Year 8 visit campus on Wednesday. The students were so easy to work with. They were respectful, followed instructions, were engaged and took part in all the activities. Please pass my thanks on to Mr Tate and Mrs Gayle for ensuring the day ran smoothly."

Eleanor Milne, Widening Participation Senior Officer, King’s College London

Music in Secondary Schools Trust

I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for the incredible enthusiasm and dedication you and your staff displayed at the Music in Secondary Schools Trust (MiSST) Together Day! Your team played an indispensable role, contributing significantly to the success of the day.

I must commend your students, who were an absolute pleasure to work with. Their exemplary behaviour, unwavering enthusiasm, sharp focus, and resilience throughout the day were really impressive. I wanted to reiterate that students will have played for at least 4 hours which likely equates to the equivalent of a full term's worth of practice on their instruments. I hope that this intensive day of music-making will have a profound impact on their progress and may even serve to inspire and elevate the performance

Stephanie Bissell, Director of Music, The Music in Secondary Schools Trust

Why do parents choose to apply to HAP?

We recently reviewed our mid-term admissions from families arriving in the UK and the most common reason parents gave for applying was that, when researching schools, they got a good impression of HAP from the internet. We are pleased that our website is giving a good and true impression and promoting our academy to potential parents who are new to the country and who have perhaps never been to Peckham.

"I was in Whitstable yesterday and saw your students around the harbour area. I just wanted to say how impressed I was by them all. Great behaviour , polite and friendly. A credit to themselves and their school."

"I'd just like to say what a credit to the school the pupils and staff members were. The pupils were very polite, held doors open for others and spoke very well/politely. The little things that go a long way. They seemed to have a great night and thoroughly enjoy themselves. Please pass on my thanks as I was one of the members of the public they held doors open for."

"Thank you to all at HAP.  I am very happy with the support given to me and my daughter.  HAP is a good school and the teachers are good."

"One teacher from another school involved in the day – who taught here at the Academy when it was Warwick Park – sought me out to tell me how amazing they were as musicians, how well-behaved and how she wished there were more HAP students there. Two members of the public on the way back from the Academy also spoke to me on the bus to say how polite and well-behaved the students were and that they were a credit to the Academy. They gave up seats for other passengers on the bus and Angelise  in particular was immensely helpful and kind to a mum whose child was ill."

Headlines from Year 9 Parents' Evening

83% of Year 9 parents attended. Of the parents surveyed:

  • 100% of parents either agree or strongly agree that we have high expectations for their child
  • 90% of parents would recommend our academy to others
  • 95% of parents believe their child does well at our academy

"On Thursday 2nd February 2023 I took a trip to the theatre to see Mandela. I was so impressed with the conduct of your students, from lining up outside, navigating their way around the theatre and throughout the entire performance they demonstrated a high standard of excellence. The two members of staff were fully engaged, warm and supportive towards the students. I thought I would email you as often there is a lot of negative press about students, but Harris Peckham demonstrated brilliance. Keep up the great work."
