BBC visit
A joint venture between Media and the Library consisting of 25 students across all year groups visited the home of British broadcasting, The BBC in Central London on Tuesday 14 April.
Broadcasting House is BBC’s largest creative hub in the UK, generating more live output than any other BBC site. It provides public service broadcasting to over 10 million people across the UK at any one time and to a worldwide audience of more than 150 million every week.
Our visit consisted of a history of the building and the BBC, an in-depth look behind the scenes of the state of the art newsroom with a chance to read the news using the autocue and creating an adlib weather forecast ourselves.
We were demonstrated how the nightly topical magazine programme ‘The One Show' is put together and sat on ‘The One Show' sofa where many favourite celebrities and personalities have sat and been interviewed by Matt, Alex and Chris!
In a studio where BBC Radio Dramas are made we produced our own radio play, complete with music and sound effects, which was the highlight of the visit.
All our students were enthusiastic and engaged and even enquired if they could work at the BBC during the summer.
The visit was a great success, the Year 11 media students found the experience rewarding and advantageous relating to their GCSE exam this summer.
