Duke Of Edinburgh Expedition
On Monday 30 March a group of Year 10 students went to Otford, Kent on a practice Duke Of Edinburgh expedition.
When we arrived in Otford, we divided into small groups. I was in a group with my friends, so that I could receive support and motivation and give it back. Ten minutes into the expedition we moved away from pavements and onto pathways and fields. Once we were deep into the fields, we arrived at a pathway which was full of thick mud making it the worse terrain I have ever set my foot on!
After we passed the mud, we had a lot of hills to climb and we eventually reached the M25. We watched a few cars go by before heading back through the woods. In the woods, some of us collected strong sticks in order to hold our weight and make it easier for us to walk, as at this point we were exhausted. Once we got out of the woods we had a huge hill in front of us that we had to climb! It was very steep. It was hard but we all helped each other and eventually made it. As soon as we made it to the top we ran back down a hill and into a town for lunch.
After lunch we set off to finish our journey. We had to walk out of the town and back into the woodlands. Then we managed to find what seemed to be the tallest flight of stairs ever. It was long and hard but we finally made it. Then we walked through the woods and finally back into Otford.
It was a great experience and I would love to do it again! I was happy that I got to practice doing an expedition for the first time.
