Unicorn Theatre Visit
I was worried a theatre trip might be boring but I was totally wrong! Following a short bus journey we walked into the unicorn theatre and we took our seats, the room went dark and the play started. The play (Martyr) was about a Christian extremist teenager who wanted everyone around him to take on a literalist interpretation of the bible. He wanted girls and boys to fully cover their bodies when swimming, he wanted sex education cancelled, science not to be taught in schools and homosexuals to be killed. His extremist ways where also challenged by his biology teacher, but his delusion had already taken him too far. The play finishes with a clever twist of the martyrdom quote “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it.” Luke 9.24. The play dealt with a diversity of topics including faith, extremism, abortion, divorce and sexuality. An interesting question that arose from this discussion was from my colleague Joseph Sowole who asked, “Is being an extremist playing God?”
Overall the theatre trip was an ultimate success and we all had a brilliant time and look forward to more trips like it!
