HAP Black History Month Poster Competition
This year for Black History Month 2023, we are running a poster competition, in conjunction with the rest of the Harris Federation, and asking students to research, write and design a poster or creative piece of writing that showcases extraordinary Black British women, in history and the modern day.
The focus of the competition links with the national focus for Black History Month which is ‘Celebrating Our Sisters’ to recognise the often overlooked contributions to history and society of black women.
As part of the poster competition, students are being asked to:
- Select a Black women from history whose actions have inspired them.
- Research the person’s story focusing on who they were, what did they do, why they are important and what changed as a result of the person’s actions.
- Create a poster/piece of creative writing/poem for display showing why their chosen person is so important.
The competition is running over the whole of October, and entries must be submitted to Mr Tye, Associate Assistant Principal, by Monday 31st October. This will be a great Half Term project for students to get involved with and develop their enquiry.
To help with research, please see below some links which will be useful:
We would also welcome students research into their own family history and educate us on an extraordinary women in your family.
We look forward to seeing all of our students wonderful entries and join together to celebrate Black History Month, especially the contributions of Black women to history and society.
