Strings Players Excel at Music Workshop
On Friday 3rd March, Year 9 and 10 students joined up with students from Harris Academy Wimbledon for a strings workshop, under the baton of Ian Rowe, one of the Harris Federation's Music Consultants.
After the hugely successful performance by the Concert Band at the Harris Federation Conference in October 2022, our strings students are getting in on the action ahead of a Federation-wide Symphony Orchestra, which will form in Summer 2023.
Year 9 violin students (many of whom have chosen to continue Music at GCSE) joined our Year 10 violinists as well as cellists from Wimbledon to play arrangements of Imagine Dragons’ ‘Believer’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Billie Jean’.
Not having seen the music before, our students rose to the challenge and by the end of the three-hour session, were able to perform both pieces. Year 10 students – all of whom are experienced orchestral players who have performed with the Multistory Orchestra and Music in Secondary Schools Trust on several occasions – asked if their parts could be re-written to be more challenging for July when they will represent Harris Academy Peckham as part of the Federation Symphony Orchestra.
There is a short clip from the workshop of students performing an excerpt of Believer on the Academy’s social media channels.
