Year 8 Football Match
On Friday 13th March the Year 8 football team travelled to King's College Sports Ground to take on Harris Boys Academy East Dulwich. The first half was a tight affair, with East Dulwich being denied by some excellent goalkeeping by Alassan and Peckham coming close twice through Samuel. East Dulwich eventually took the lead towards the end of the first half with a fine finish. At half time the boys regrouped and came out quickly for the second half showing great effort and tenacity. The reward for our pressure came after 5 minutes when Tyrique equalised from close range. 1-1 soon became 2-1 after some fine midfield play was finished with a powerful strike by Gabriel. The match quickly became a scrappy affair with both teams putting in strong tackles. The physical play of East Dulwich soon took its toll with a number of players coming off with injuries. These changes affected our rhythm and East Dulwich equalised soon after. The match was now turning against us and despite excellent work in the heart of defence by Josue, East Dulwich applied yet more pressure and took the lead with 5 minutes to go. An unlucky day was compounded by a final goal for East Dulwich with the last kick of the game. 4-2 was the eventual score line but each player played with great zeal and the final scoreline did not reflect the tightness of the game.
