Peckham Performers at the Roundhouse

Acclaimed poet, Salena Godden, visited Harris Academy Peckham to perform extracts from her anthology The Good Immigrant.

Our Peckham Poets and Actors were chosen to perform alongside Salena. It was an excellent opportunity for students to work on their theatrical delivery with an industry professional. Alfie, year 7, said “it’s exciting because it’s an opportunity to do performing arts with a poet”.

The students spoke on diverse themes such as identity, culture and movement. Students were also able to discuss the art form of poetry and the fearlessness it takes to be a young writer. Salena, the poet, noted the student work was “so beautiful, brilliant [and] powerful”.

Their performance was screened as part of the Roundhouse poetry festival ‘The Last Word’, in June. Our poets received brilliant tips and they are working on new poems for WORDFest alongside Harris Academy Beckenham.
