Year 11 Harris Experience Workshop
On Wednesday 22nd November Year 11 Harris Experience students attended workshops at Harris Academy Bermondsey.
Workshops were delivered by the acclaimed philosophy-in-schools practitioner, Peter Worley, to help students develop advanced learning and enquiry skills and to be able to apply those within and beyond the classroom through improvement in the following areas:
- Intellectual curiosity – recognising value of independent and open enquiry.
- Academic courage – eagerness to engage with the unfamiliar.
- Academic resilience – struggle as a key learning experience.
- Time management.
Students received an introduction to ethics and related enquiry, for example, “How should I live?”, followed by reflecting on what makes a good learner and concluded with how students could use the philosophical principles and techniques covered to improve their own learning.
Students were consistently engaged throughout the four hour workshop and demonstrated a very impressive ability to connect with and articulate upon, the three competencies of ‘Aporia’; Intellectual virtues and Metacognition. They were highly commended by Peter Worsely.
