Southwark Catherdral Visit
On Wednesday 22nd November the Sixth form philosophy class went on a trip to Southwark cathedral. We had the chance to witness professionals of different religious and non-religious backgrounds discuss the religious and ethical approaches to end of life issues. These professionals included; Revd Kevin parks a priest, Alexandra Wright a senior rabbi and Trevor Moore a humanist. The topics that they touched on were; euthanasia, sanctity and quality of life and weather life should always be prolonged or not. Tia asked the question, ‘how is asking not to be resuscitated and requesting euthanasia different?’ We discussed issues of artificially prolonging life and whether euthanasia should be legalised or whether it is only God who can give and take life. There was also a discussion on ‘should euthanasia be a political or religious matter?'
During these discussions our Academy was excellently represented, with students participating and contributing. Overall we unanimously agreed it was an insightful and educational visit which was greatly helpful to our A level course.
