Bloomberg LP Visit
On Monday 27th February, 13 Year 12 Business Studies and Economics students visited Bloomberg LP in the City of London. The focus of the visit was for students to develop their presentation skills and to become confident in public speaking.
Students were first given an introduction to the work undertaken by Bloomberg LP, mainly the importance of the Bloomberg platform in providing data for business decision making. Students asked insightful questions during their briefing including; “How do your employees find the information your clients need?”, “What happens if you provide inaccurate data?”, “Who are your top ten clients?” and “How do you determine what information to research?”.
Following this, students were given a tour of Bloomberg’s offices and were able to experience the corporate environment and atmosphere of a data driven business. The students also had the opportunity to see the television studio where Bloomberg news is filmed.
Students then worked with two members of the Bloomberg philanthropy team to come up with the characteristics of good and bad presentations and then set about using this list of characteristics as a success criteria to prepare a two minute pitch on a Bloomberg branded product they were given. Students were told the make their presentation simple and effective but to focus on making their product unique and creative.
Following thirty minutes of preparation time students then presented their pitches to the group. They received feedback on their presentation skills and at the end of the session both members of the Bloomberg team commented on the professionalism, confidence and enthusiasm of our students. An excellent experience for our Year 12 students that has equipped them with transferable skills that they can use as they progress throughout their careers.
