Music Visit to see the Multi Story Orchestra

On Friday 11th September, GCSE Music and Year 9 students attended an interactive workshop and performance of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony with the Multi Story Orchestra in Peckham. The orchestra were divided into smaller groups, each exploring a different aspect of the symphony. Students were able to ask the orchestra members questions and Deborah 10B1 volunteered to conduct one of these sessions. She controlled the dynamics of the group beautifully!

Following this, the orchestra performed the complete symphony. After the 2nd movement, the students were invited to sit amongst the orchestra to experience the music from a different angle and perspective. They really enjoyed seeing the conductor at work and how you could ‘feel’ the music as well as hear it. Considering Beethoven was already losing his hearing when he composed this piece, it gave an insight as to how the great composer would have experienced the music himself.
