Jack Petchey Speak Out Competition
On 14th and 16th January selected Year 10 students took place in the Jack Petchey workshops with the Regional Co-ordinator from Speakerstrust coming to help judge the students. Students had to give a speech in front of staff and their peers. Feedback from staff was encouraging. The Regional Co-ordinator commented, "we moved through delivery with some great impromptus, and it became really clear by the end that this group really stand out for their imagination. We had unusual topics in the final speeches which showed real creativity around content. They also grasped structure well, as we saw good evidence of clear introductions and conclusions in the final speeches." Feedback from students was extremely positive. "Today’s training has really helped me boost my confidence. I loved the workshop, it was great!"
"I liked the way that at the beginning of the day I was totally negative about public speaking but as the day went on I knew as long as you put your mind to it you can do it"
"Today’s training was very good; it helped me raise my confidence. This workshop can also be seen as a life skill."
Six finalists will be selected to deliver is a Speak Out assembly and out of these 2 students will be selected to go forward to the Borough Final on 15th April at Kingsdale School.
