Year 10 Artists' Distorted Sculptures
Year 10 HAP artists took part in a clay workshop with local artist Tabitha Weddell, where they created ceramic pieces to expand their portfolios.
Following their theme of Distorted Portraits, our students created colourful face sculptures using a variety of techniques.
The Year 10 artists told us how much they enjoyed the process; Omotola said the experience was ‘very experimental and allowed us all to expand our imaginations further than before, using clay which I’ve never used before’.
Bobby found the workshop ‘very interesting and informative, we learnt how to manipulate and manoeuvre the clay in different ways. My face sculpture was inspired by the Moai sculptures on Easter Island. I think forming the individual facial features was the most important part of the process, because of the way the faces we made were distorted, the techniques we learned meant that we could make these features effective.’
Antonio said it was a kind of ‘experimental experience that allowed us to try out a new form of art. I particularly enjoyed making a fully realised 3D artwork, especially in a medium I’d never used before.’
