HAP Jazz Band at Harris Manchester College, Oxford

20220203 151526The Harris Academy Peckham Jazz Band went to Harris Manchester College, Oxford, recently to perform a recital in their beautiful chapel.

The students performed a rich and varied programme, including jazz standards, Bach, Nirvana and a new composition by lead guitarist Terence. The recital was very well received with rapturous applause!

"The performances had real quality, great verve and panache, style, obvious commitment and irrepressible enthusiasm, all generated and unleashed by their teachers - of that there's no doubt," said Head of Music at Manchester College, John Dunstan.

The HAP Jazz Band is predominantly made up of GCSE Music students, who relished the opportunity to get out there and to perform once again. It is certainly something that they have missed during the pandemic. The performance was made even more special as it also saw the debut of one of our Year 7 students, Michael, who joined the band just last term as the main piano player.

In addition to the recital, the students were able to explore Oxford and ask questions about their upcoming Oxbridge applications. They were also able to eat lunch in the Manchester College dining hall, which was fantastic and the food was delicious!

The day was a wonderful experience for all involved and we are already looking forward to our return for the 2022-23 concert series!
