World Book Day 2015
On Thursday 5 March the Academy celebrated World Book Day with a range of different activities:
All members enjoyed the “BIG READ” during Tutor Time -and some teachers even read to their students a part of their favourite book.
Teachers put “I am currently reading” posters on display –quite a few members of staff are interested in football! The information given helped students to complete their book-trails.
In this week’s assemblies our librarian was recommending the free books students can exchange for their book-tokens and some students have been already spotted by our literacy spies reading them!
The inspirational power of books was also picked up during lessons, which focussed especially on literacy and reading. In Ms Corners Geography class students read a text exploring a ‘jungle’ environment, followed by doing colourful illustrations.
At the Learning Resource Centre the focus was on reading for pleasure: a selection of especially recommended reads was on display. The film screening of “The book thief” was a touching reminder on the freedom of writing and the importance of stories.
World Book Day was a great opportunity to enjoy reading and the value of books.
