KPMG Career skills workshop November 2016
On Friday 25th November Year 10 Business Studies students were given the opportunity to meet 12 employees from KPMG, one of the largest professional services companies in the UK.
The first task involved students working together in groups to build the tallest tower using spaghetti, marshmallows and scissors. This developed their team working skills and resilience as it wasn’t easy at first! All teams did well, but only two towers could stand on their own at the end. A vital lesson learnt there.
The day moved on to interview practice, with students working on a one to one basis with employees at KPMG. They learnt how to conduct themselves in an interview and were then tested by KPMG. The students performed incredibly well under pressure, answering questions with confidence and using what they had learnt during the session.
The final session got the students to think about what makes a good CV and students had the opportunity to start working on their own CV.
The day finished with KPMG discussing opportunities available for students after Sixth form and during University and students asked questions about what it is like being an accountant.
Overall, a great opportunity for our students to learn about finance and develop soft skills on a one to one basis.
