Harris Federation Spelling Bee
The Lord Harris Spelling Bee trophy has come to Peckham where it belongs after our four winning Harris Academy Peckham students, Umer Raja, Kaden Afriyie, Papula Korshid and Aliya Thompson competed against students from 17 other Academies in the Harris Federation and won. Their group effort scored them top marks in the first round. Aliya’s strategic gameplay ensured that Peckham did not lose any unnecessary marks in the second round and the supersonic spelling speed of Umer gave us a great head start in the third round. Kaden scored the highest in the quick buzzing fourth round, putting us safely in the lead. Papula managed to make it to the second round of “Last Man Standing” with the hardest word in her round. By the end of the competition even the school who scored twenty in the final round could not beat our champions.
They were great ambassadors for Peckham and did their teacher (who coincidentally also won the teachers’ round) and their Academy proud. They came home with not only the aforementioned trophy, they also won the generous prize of a Kindle fire and twenty pounds book vouchers and a chocolate bar for Ms. Afriyie. What testament to the hard work of our students!
Go Peckham!
