Imperial College Visit
On Monday 9 February the Year 12 Chemistry students visited Imperial College where they attended two workshops. The first workshop introduced the students to some spectroscopic techniques (IR, UV/vis, Mass Spectrometry) and taught them how to apply these techniques to identify unknown compounds. The students were also fortunate enough to use an actual IR spectroscopy machine and also to see a mass spectrometer which really helped them in their understanding of these concepts.
In the second workshop students again had to identify unknown compounds, this time using 4 different functional group tests.
The visit was very informative, and tied in very well with what The Year 12 Chemistry students are currently studying in lessons.
