Student Skills Seminar
On Wednesday 24th February, AS Sociology students attended a one-day student skills seminar, led by Keith Trobe (Principal Examiner AS Sociology), which explored in detail the skills needed to do well in AS Sociology, developing their ability, and gaining the know- how necessary for attaining top marks in the exam.
The seminar, held at Harris Academy, Falconwood, consisted of energetic and lively 'bite-sized' sessions and involved students in a range of different activities to identify and reinforce their understanding of the subject.
‘Keith Trobe engaged us with his enigmatic and personable manner, drawing us in and then delivering handy , useful and simple techniques that will hopefully greatly improve my results ‘ , was how one student eloquently described the event. Using humour, personal anecdote and the wisdom of his years of experience, Mr Trobe was able to make the students feel confident about how to approach the examinations in this subject, something that was helped by the fact that he has consulted on and helped write many of the examination questions in the past.
Judging by the enthusiasm and feedback from the students, this could well become an annual event for students of Sociology at Harris Academy Peckham.
