Royal Opera House visit
On Friday 8th January, 11 Year 10 students visited the Royal Opera House in Convent Garden to watch a matinee performance of Tosca, Giacomo Puccini’s romantic tragedy set during the Napoleonic War. This was part of the Harris Experience, aimed at providing students with a wealth of cultural and academic experiences. Students marvelled at the stunning architecture of the building as well as the intricacy of the set design. When the curtains were raised, an expectant hush fell amongst the audience. After an ominous first act, the piece rose to a crescendo in acts two and three, as students laughed, gasped, were shocked out of their seats and were captivated by the beautiful arias and unexpected plot twists. All students wanted to do afterwards was discuss what they had just seen, and all left with a deep appreciation for Opera.
