BBC News and Religion workshop
On Friday 27 November Josie Verghese and Fleur Clackson came in to launch the BBC school report and to talk about the news with the students. They first introduced what the school report would be and how the students would be able to get involved. They then got the students to think about the news and what is consists of, the students in groups spoke about local, national and global news and what that consists of.
Lastly Josie and Fleur got the students to mind map ideas for their own news stories and they went round the classroom and worked with different groups of students, they were especially impressed by a group consisting of Kayla, Nayara, Jenny and Aisha who wanted to pitch a story about the Sign Language club at school which Josie said was very rare for a school to do.
In the other group Josie and Fleur loved Joe Concepcion’s and the other EAL students ideas of pitching a story about all the different languages spoken here at Harris Peckham and how they all try to communicate with each other in English.
