Law and Social Sciences Experience Day at London South Bank University
On 11th November 2015, seventeen A Level Sociology students from Harris Academy Peckham attended a Law and Social Sciences Experience Day hosted by London South Bank University.
The students had an opportunity to experience first-hand what it would be like to be thought in a lecture room full of undergraduate students. Entering the room was an awe-inspiring experience for some students to see the number of students already seated and the size of the lecture room. Students attended lectures conducted by Doctor Julien Morton and QC Tracey Aquino, senior lecturers in Sociology and Law.
The sociology lecturer was very thought provoking and covered current issues on Social Networking and its influences. This sparked discussions on how the use of mobile phones are empowering ordinary people into political groups which are bureaucratic and hierarchical. This followed discussions on the changing structure of the Family; Marriage; Relationships; Consumerism and their effects on society.
Upon return to the Academy students were buzzing and anxious to tell Mr. Brown their sociology teacher of their experience and how their A Level lesson contributed to their understanding of the lecture and their ability to contribute during discussions.
